It’s in spring when so many plants awaken with delights that makes it almost cruel to highlight just one.
In a close fought contest, the prize goes to the mini Japanese cherry standard – Prunus Kojo-No-Mai.
The fact it is a standard plant – think bush on a stick – means Prunus Kojo-No-Mai will fit in the smallest garden. In contrast, cherry trees which have similar features can so easily outgrow smaller gardens.
What makes it so special then? In spring, the flowers will erupt before the leaves so their beauty is laid bare. It doesn’t mess around – it will send masses of flowers crowding each branch, soft white and pink and very pretty. It also then makes a star turn in Autumn with colour changing foliage to dazzle you. If you like beautiful plants that work hard to shine through the year – get one!
They are not fussy – good soil in a sheltered location will suit them fine.
