Christmas Box (Sarcococca Confusa)
At first glance, Christmas Box as it is commonly called, is a fairly modest shrub and can be easily passed by when walking around the garden centre. And yet, it possesses a number of fine qualities which make it a prized selection for most gardens. With it’s glossy evergreen foliage, it’s slow growing nature and not being too fussy about it’s conditions except perhaps for some shelter from strong winds and sun.
It’s always good to recognise those shrubs courageous enough to flower in the winter months, while the flowers are small, it’s fragrance is not…In January, it pumps out an intoxicating scent that has to be one of the top flower smells, it’s the perfect cure for all of us who suffer from the January blues.
